Who am I?
Ian "Ecosystem" Coffield
Hello and welcome to my personal website! Here I will be attempting to make a hub for all aspects of my digital and online presence.
So who am I? My name is Ian and I’m in my early 30s. I got my nickname “EcoSystem” from the first syllable on my first and last name. Ee + Co = Eco, then eco sounded like the short version of ecosystem and thus my moniker was born!
I grew up and have spent time all over the US, spending long amounts of time in Colorado, Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina specifically. Experiencing the different cultures and customs unique to local regions have been incredibly interesting! For example, Pennsylvania was much more racist than North Carolina, which for me was quite counter intuitive. (Disclaimer being racists are still a huge MINORITY, I am a firm believer while the US has abundant room for improvement, it is far less racist than the majority of the world)
My hobbies have honestly not evolved much since childhood. Since I can remember I was always interested in sports, video games, animals, and learning. I was a member of the track and field team all through middle and high school. My accolades include being a team captain in both 8th and 12th grade, being All-State every year of high school, and winning the state championship my senior year. I also took part in cross country, basketball, soccer, gymnastics, weightlifting, and was a collegiate swimmer. My video game obsession has been evergreen throughout my life. While I play many games and genres, I mostly focus, and have focused, on World of Warcraft.
Regarding animals we had many pets growing up which played a huge role in my worldview. My pet history includes fish, frogs, turtles, lizards, hamsters, hermit crabs, dogs, and cats. Mango being the most impactful (though obviously my love for all my pets is hard to measure!). I will likely give her many posts of her own as she is deserving of my eternal gratitude.
Lastly, my obsession with learning could be explained by many things. I’m “high-functioning” on the spectrum, ADHD, insomnia, and have a naturally inquisitive demeanor. I often wish our society had the option to be a lifetime scholar like the old Greeks of legend. Literally nightly I will be surfing the internet either watching a random documentary, educational video, or researching a topic. Tonight’s menu includes a documentary on conformal cyclic cosmology and a deep dive of if sugar free 0-cal sodas still elicit an insulin response, all while it is 4:51 am while writing this!
I am also fascinated by language. This will also warrant separate posts, but just to add some context to people interested in my bio: I obviously am a native English speaker but am learning both Spanish (B2 ish level) and Russian (A2+ ish level). My 5 year goal (2027) is to be able to consider myself trilingual!
As you can see I love to write, and If you watch any of my video content, talk. I am GREAT at rambling and overexplaining. So without creating a novel, I will stop here for now and likely come back to add more in future updates. I am also a FIRM beliver in transparency at every level so I will add a short list of how I would classify my demographics so you can better understand my perspective and inherent (though always fighting against) biases.
Thank you so much for spending you time on me. I could care less about monetizing any aspect of my life, but producing forms of content that make people think (and hopefully smile) is paramount. As always, stay curious, be present, and remain optimistic!
